Many public and private sector buildings as well as private homes have air conditioning systems of various sizes. These systems must be carefully maintained, managed and designed so that they are as energy efficent as possible.
Measures have therefore been introduced by the Communities in Local Government (CLG) to ensure that these air conditioning systems are regularly inspected in all properties.

Air conditioning systems with a total system cooling capacity greater than 12kW (whether in dwellings or non-dwellings) will be inspected at intervals not exceeding 5 years.
Inspections and Measures must be undertaken by………
4th January 2009 – 1st inspection of all existing systems greater or equal to 250kW
4th January 2011 – 1st inspection of all remaining systems greater or equal to 12kW
The inspection will include an efficiency assessment, a review of their sizing and advice on replacements, improvements and/or alternative solutions as detailed within the CIBSE guide
